My small town was hit by the disappearance of a young college girl back in October. Everyone knew her boyfriend did something to her but the police could not locate her body until just recently. Her memorial was last night. Seemed like half the town went. We listened to speeches from many of her friends and family and I felt like we got to know her better after they all spoke kindly and honestly on her behalf, shared funny and touching stories about her. I met her only once and I still remember the last time I saw her, she was crossing the circle at school and waved to me, probably headed to class. I keep thinking about her and thinking how the last moments of her life must have been sheer terror. She made a huge impact on a lot of people. She was passionate about life, seeing the world, hiking, nature and conservation, and making friends. She was killed at the age of 21... I really hope her boyfriend and all the people who helped him try to cover her murder all rot in prison.
