I'm back!

Came back from vacation late last night. Justin arrived three hours after me so we got home at 2 am. I'm back at work now and wasn't as late as I thought I'd be thanks to Justin waking me up.

The biggest news is that I've been on the Keto diet for these two weeks now. A bunch of you on my flist are already on the diet so I thought I'd join the bandwagon. I really shouldn't have looked at the scale, but when I did, it showed I'd gained 15 lbs. I started the day before I left on vacation which maybe was a stupid idea, but somehow managed to conform to the diet all but one day: New Year's Eve because my mom and grandma worked hard to make a very delicious dinner for our family and friends. I lost five pounds initially that first week, but didn't lose any more after that because I guess I haven't gone back to Ketosis yet after the one day I didn't diet :/. Actually being away from Alpine and doing the diet was easy. I could go to nearly every restaurant, including all our favorites, and modify meals so they are low carb. There aren't really restaurants I can go to in Alpine... there are about five and they're Italian and Mexican. We went to this Hooters-type place his friends like to go to and I ordered my burger with no buns and they happened to have a soup that looked low carb to me. Even most soups have high carbs in them. The pros to this diet is that I like steak and eggs and you don't go hungry on it. The con is that it is very restrictive and you don't really eat anything besides meat and SOME vegetables. For fruit, you're only allowed to eat berries so I've grown accustomed to blackberries which are the lowest carb out of all the fruits. No apples, no oranges, and most importantly, no bananas : (. I love bananas... You can also eat some nuts so I picked up a massive amount of brazil nuts which are the lowest carb. You learn very quickly which non-meat foods contain the least carbs... I picked up a cookbook that is all low-carb recipes so I hope to try them out. I think if I didn't like steak so much, I would not like this diet. I have 10 more lbs to lose, but I'm more looking at losing another 25 lbs and then I will change to a calorie-based diet. I hope it won't take a long time to lose this weight. When I am serious about diet and exercise mode, I lose a LOT of weight. I think I can definitely do it!

EAC went out of business and they're turning it into a commercial center. Tom actually called the day I got into Florida and wanted to wish me a "Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah". I told him I was in town and there was one day he said that I could stop by. I did and got to talk a little bit with everyone and give Tom a very big hug that he didn't complain about lol. I think he liked working at EAC better and he was very busy there. At EAC he would spend most of the time talking instead of working and he doesn't get to do that at the larger prestigious business. So as a result he didn't get to talk to me much. I followed him around a little and he told me what he was up to. I did try to invite him to lunch, left a message but he didn't respond. I think actually he didn't get it because he seems to have a hard time figuring out missed calls and messages. Or maybe he just didn't want to go with me and was trying to hide it LOL. Whatever it was, at least I got to see him for a few minutes. I have no idea when I'm going back to Florida, so it's going to be a long time before I get to see him and everyone else again : (.

We spent Christmas with Justin's family which meant a lot of sitting around in Justin's parents' apartment which I get very bored of. His mom gave us a ton of Christmas presents, all around a theme. Mine was warm items. I got a very nice shawl, some hand warmers, and some very nice wool socks. Justin got cooking items.

I've been playing Pokemon Moon. I don't know, I'm very disappointed where they're taking the series because of how vastly different it continues to be since the original one on the game boy. They keep adding all this stuff to make the game easier. If your pokemon are happy, they earn bonus XP which makes them super beasts early in the game. If your pokemon have a status ailment, you can poke them and it will go away... your pokemon now just do extra crits and don't KO all based on happiness. Man playing Pokemon Red and then Gold back then was such a different experience.

Although there is this new pokemon that looks just like Donald Trump, which I find hilarious.

At home I got to see Wei-Chen and Jennifer. And then my family of course. My parents were back from the Galapagos and showed us their pics. Dad got the stomach flu and was out of commission most of the time I was there. Wei-Chen and I went to Japantown. It was really hard finding a place I could eat at, but we managed to find some place that served hamburger steak. I think Alexis is mad at me so I didn't bother trying to contact her.

I got to see more movies during the break then I have in a long time. Moana, Fantastic Beasts, and Rogue One. I liked Moana the most. It was so stunning and the songs were so amazing! I really loved it. I guess they're making another several movies.

I'm still continuing the memes! Under this cut

Day 16- A song that you used to love, but now hate

Hm hard... I tend not to dislike songs when they get overplayed or anything. Maybe ACDC's "Hell's Bells" although I don't hate it, but maybe not like it so much anymore.

Day 17- A song that you hear often on the radio

Again, there is really no music radio in Alpine. When out of Alpine, I only listen to the Classic Rock stations. They tend to play their range of hits over and over. I'd say "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin.

Day 18- A song you wish you heard on the radio

Tarzan Boy by Baltimora is only played on New Wave Night.

Day 19- A song from your favorite album

I've talked about REO a lot, so let's go with "Wish You Were Here" from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.

Day 20- A song you listen to when you're angry

Oh again songs and emotions. I don't do this. I'll just insert this big hit from Fallout Boy:

The video is very cute.

Day 21 → your favorite websites this year

Nothing interesting. I don't regularly visit websites besides facebook and lj.

Day 22 → new items you’ve added to collections this year

Have my coin collection, but haven't added much to it. My coworker from San Jose State went to Ireland and gave me some Euros that had Irish things on them.

Day 23 → travel you did this year

No exciting travel : (. Did a roadtrip with Jennifer and stopped by Tombstone, Arizona. I don't really count Christmas break in Florida as "travel".

Day 24 → Something which caught your interest this year

This idiotic election. Still can't believe this guy got elected... so sad.

Day 25 → a photo of you and your family

I'll include one of us from our trip to Cambodia a year ago. My favorite temple Ta Prohm.

Whereabouts in Florida were you?

Yay for Moana love!! It's my favorite Disney film in basically 20 years, so I was very excited about it too--and yes, the music, gah! <33 The whole soundtrack is great. What makes you think they are making sequels though?

BTW, I still go to the Epically Long Boardgames meet up and the other day had a particularly epic BSG game with 5 other people (one playing Cylon Leader), and I was playing Support!Gaius and was a Cylong from the beginning, After the sleeper phase, the other Cylon immediately revealed, and so the presidency passed to me, allowed me to brig the CAG, Starbuck, and lower morale with Quorom cards until it was almost zero. I was able to basically openly Cylon without ever "revealing," because the Cylon leader had a Cylon allegiance and the other 2 players couldn't do anything to stop me (also support!Gaius in some ways is great as a Cylon, because his "weakness" is that he can only use his reveal powers in the brig, so I only had to fear death). :p And all three of us Cylons were sitting in a row. Anyway, I know only you could really appreciate all this. ;)

Whenever I go to Florida, it's always the same place- Hollywood, which is about 40 mins north of Miami in Broward County. I've been all over Florida for travel though. Orlando a bunch of times and the Gulf Coast too.

I'm so happy you're still going to that BSG group! I'm glad I took you to that shortly before I left and you like it. That sounds like quite the achievement lol. I've had some close games as a Cylon before.

Welcome to the keto fold :) Stick with it - I find it good and bad that you get so immediately punished for going off (on one hand, it's a good incentive to not go off, on the other...). I miss carrots and apples so much!

I haven't found a way around Mexican food yet - there's just no way I can find to modify *anything* there (other than asking for a fork and guacamole). Italian at least sometimes has salads you can modify or steaks or chicken piccata. I miss eggplant rollatini, though...sigh.

We thankfully have a burger place close to here that does lettuce wraps without batting an eye...and we wound up in 5 Guys, which I had never been to before, and they do lettuce wraps too :) I swear, I now judge restaurants on whether they'll lettuce wrap and/or sub salad for fries. I was so mad when they would only sub the fries for cole slaw...it was like nooooo you ruined the cabbage with sugar! Lol, will not be going back :P

You've had a lot of success through Keto so I thought I'd join you. I intend to try that chocolate chip cheesecake recipe you posted this weekend... so long as the Swerve comes on time. I hope they shipped it.

Yeah eating out in Alpine is very limited. I think I won't be a problem to ask for burgers with no buns. I'm unsure if the burger places will offer a small side salad instead of fries, though. We'll have to check that with our favorite burger place soon.

Oh speaking of Mexican food, you know there are low-carb tortillas you can get (I got some that are only 3 net carbs a piece and I had them for dinner last night), although going out... yeah that's hard. The fajita mix is generally low-carb AND there is a tortilla shell you can try to make from purely cheese! It looks kind of hard to get the right consistency though I'm sure it takes some practice.

I like that meme!!

Regarding the diet, I lost 54 pounds on the Dukan diet (which is all about ketosis) and kept it off for a year, more importantly, my husband who is a type II diabetic lost 40 and was able to stop taking his oral meds. But then last year we went off completely and basically ate lots of carbs. I'm italian and hubby is mexican so you can guess what we were eating. :(
This past holiday season I got together with a nutritionist to get something more livable for both of us as we are getting older and need to stop yo yo dieting and be healthier...and I really need to keep my weight off because of my arthritis. So now we are doing a more modified, cleaner eating type of plan and losing weight steadily and feeling good. It is always hard to alter your diet but the hardest part for me is maintaining whatever I'm doing.
Love this picture!!! :)

Wow you did well on the Dukan diet!I hope your current diet goes well for you. I think I'll have a hard time with maintenance too... after I hit my goal weight, I'll do something based on calories, but I can see myself putting weight back on. I hope something works out.
